India part 1 Introduction
rollback 88
In May and early June of 2009, I took a trip to northern India with a copy of Lonely Planet as my only companion. This is an account of that trip. This account is not completely accurate. This is partly because I'm writing this more than two years after the trip ended; I have forgotten things. Some of it is because I have a limited understanding of Indian culture and languages, and this is, of course, written based on my biased perceptions. Lastly, I am changing or omitting names to protect the identities of some of the people I met.

A little background on me: I'm a 20-something female from a white middle-class family in the middle of America. I went to a good public high school. Like the majority of my classmates, I went straight to college after graduation. Having untreated ADD and no real idea what I wanted to do with my life, I flunked out after a year and a half. I then joined Americorps*National Civilian Community Corps. During my time in Americorps, I learned about the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). After graduating from Americorps, I had no desire to return to conventional college. I love hiking and camping, so I though taking a backpacking course with sounded like fun.

Thanks for reading. Part 2
